New connections, new possibilities for Glen Innes Highlands
Good ideas can come from anywhere. And the people behind them shouldn't have to leave their communities to find the knowledge, support and connections to take them further.
That's the thinking behind a new partnership between the SRI and Glen Innes Severn Council, which officially launched at the Glen Innes Highlands Hub on Tuesday 13 October, as part of NSW Small Business Month.
The partnership sees the Highlands Hub become part of SRI's growing regional network, connecting local business owners, entrepreneurs and people with ideas to mentoring, capability development programs, UNE researchers, industry expertise and a wider community of people doing interesting things across the New England North West.
For UNE SRI Director Cameron Turner, it's about building on the knowledge, experience and opportunities that already exist in our regional communities.
"Regional innovation works best when people, knowledge and opportunity are connected. What excites me about this partnership is the opportunity to unlock the knowledge and expertise within UNE, connect it with the ideas, businesses and people already doing great things in Glen Innes, and see what new opportunities emerge."
The Highlands Hub will continue to operate as a local coworking, meeting and community space, while becoming a connection point into the broader SRI network. There are also plans to bring SRI programs and community gatherings directly to Glen Innes.
Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Margot Davis said the partnership builds on the Hub's vision of supporting local enterprise through meaningful connections.
"The Hub's success depends on more than providing a space. It is about connecting local businesses and entrepreneurs with the expertise, mentoring and networks that help them develop ideas and grow. This partnership strengthens those connections while allowing people to build their businesses here in Glen Innes."
We're looking forward to getting to know more of the people, businesses and ideas coming out of Glen Innes, and seeing what we can build together.
