The UNE SRI is here to help UNE staff, students and researchers explore the commercial or community impact of their work. Our EMERGE program is designed to bring people together to tease out the opportunities and discover where the best benefits can be delivered for impact.
According to the Australian Research Council, research impact is the contribution that research makes to the economy, society, policy, environment or culture, beyond the contribution to academia.
The path to impact can be determined through a structured process and working with the UNE SRI team.

This program helps you to validate the commercial or social opportunities of your research and create a path towards realizing this goal.
Learn about the fundamental elements of business processes, including intellectual property strategies and funding strategies. Understand various business models to grow your science-based business. Explore the market and customer segments, so that you learn to think from the perspective of your ideal first client.

EMERGE is specifically designed for UNE students, HDR students, PhD-I, researchers, faculty and staff who are ready to take their research results to the next level. This program includes a series of interactive workshops:
Exploring commercial and social opportunity if research, including an introduction to Intellectual Property and Ideation
An overview of business models for academic start-up and spin-offs
What is the value of research, including the fundamentals of raising capital and other funding strategies for science-based businesses
Complete a market research and understand your ideal customer
At the end of the program, you should walk away with an understanding of how you can identify and protect the IP that is key to your research, the business models that are most suitable for commercializing your research, and the funding strategies to get your idea off the ground.
The path to achieving impact with research is never straight forward. We are here to support you in understanding the possibilities and processes that connect research outcomes to the generation of impact and commercial opportunity.
