HATCH: Idea validation bootcamp

  • UNE Centre Tamworth, Campbell Howard Lecture Room 24 Fitzroy Street Tamworth, New South Wales, 2340 Australia (map)

HATCH is the UNE SRI’s half-day bootcamp to help you explore, test and challenge your idea.

Do you have an idea you can't stop thinking about? Maybe it's a business idea, a new product, a service, or a revenue stream… Maybe it's a better way to do something in your workplace, industry, or community. Or maybe you've spotted a problem that nobody seems to be solving particularly well.

HATCH is the UNE SRI’s practical half-day bootcamp designed to help you explore, test and challenge your idea before investing significant time, money or energy into it.

Too often, people jump straight into building websites, developing products, writing business plans or launching new initiatives before they've properly tested whether the opportunity is real (i.e. are there other people who see value in the idea? Who’s willing to actually pay for it?).

Using practical tools and proven innovation methods, HATCH will show you how to:

  • Identify the real problem behind your idea, so you're solving the right challenge from the start

  • Challenge assumptions, so you can separate hope from evidence

  • Understand who actually cares about the problem, so you can focus on the people most likely to benefit from your solution

  • Test whether your idea creates genuine value before making major commitments or investments

  • Gather meaningful feedback, so you can refine your thinking based on evidence rather than guesswork

  • Identify practical next steps, so you leave with a clearer path forward and greater confidence in what to do next

What HATCH is: guided, hands-on, focused on your idea, designed to give you clarity so you can move forward with your idea (or pivot as needed) with confidence.

What HATCH isn’t: a pitching competition, networking event or traditional business workshop.

Join us for HATCH, and you’ll leave with:

  • Greater clarity about your idea

  • Practical tools for validation and customer discovery

  • A simple action plan for testing your assumptions

  • Confidence in what to do next

  • Access to ongoing support and check-ins from the UNE SMART Region Incubator team

THRIVE HATCH is led by Cameron Turner, Director of the UNE SMART Region Incubator.

Over the past two decades, Cameron has worked across research commercialisation, entrepreneurship, corporate innovation, startup creation and business growth. He's founded and scaled companies, worked with researchers and industry partners to translate ideas into impact, and taught innovation and entrepreneurship at MBA level.

But perhaps most importantly, he's spent years helping people answer one deceptively simple question: Is this idea actually worth pursuing? Cameron will challenge your thinking, ask good questions and help you explore opportunities from different angles… he’s not here to tell you what to do, but to help you make better decisions about what comes next.

Whether your idea becomes a business, a product, a new initiative or simply evolves into something better, you'll leave with greater clarity, practical tools and a clearer sense of where to focus your energy.

Morning tea and lunch provided.

This event is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Boosting Business Innovation Program.
