Join International Space Nutritionist, Speaker, and Entrepreneur Dr Flavia Fayet-Moore for an unmissable keynote and panel event that explores how regional centres like Tamworth can become food havens of the future.

Hosted by the UNE SMART Region Incubator (SRI), this event will delve into the potential food production and innovation opportunities that regional areas like Tamworth can leverage across food production, manufacturing and retail.

Led by keynote speaker Dr. Flavia Fayet-Moore, a renowned scientist, dietitian, and space nutritionist, this event will explore the intersection of science, nutrition, and innovation in shaping the future of food.

Following Dr. Flav’s keynote, she’ll join a panel of local experts to discuss nutrition, food production and manufacturing.

Meet the Panelists:

Dr. Flavia Fayet-Moore

Dr. Flavia Fayet-Moore is a Brazilian-born, Canadian-raised, Australian-made scientist, dietitian, and entrepreneur.

She is an engaging speaker with a talent for explaining complex science through fun analogies. Dr. Flav was the first dietitian in Australia to be internationally board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine and is a fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She is also the founder and CEO of FOODiQ Global, a company that provides game-changing research, education, and communication on nutrition and wellbeing.

In addition, she is a co-founder of Food is Cool, an inclusive and empowering program that teaches evidence-based nutrition education in schools. Dr. Flav's passion for science, technology, and creativity makes her a thought leader and global expert in her field.

Richard Dougherty, Balala Station

Meet Richard Daugherty, a passionate advocate for ethical and sustainable farming. Richard and his wife Sarah and their children have spent the past decade nurturing Balala Station's land, animals, and community. His commitment to biodiversity, chemical-free farming, and waste reduction has transformed the farm into a model of environmental stewardship, producing high-quality, nutrient-dense meat.

Richard's self-replacing herd of Angus cattle and dual-purpose Dohne sheep reflects his dedication to environmental sustainability and exceptional product quality. In addition to wool, their farm now supports sheep, cows, and pigs, contributing to a thriving ecosystem that includes koalas, bell turtles, and platypuses.

With a focus on sustainable practices and the production of healthy, nutrient-rich food, Richard is a valuable voice in the conversation around the future of nutrition and food production.

Kat Sherrie, Business Development Manager FPM Milling

Katherine Sherrie is the Business Development Manager for FPM Cereal Milling Systems, an independent, family-owned specialised milling company producing cereal and pulse-based products in Tamworth, NSW.

Established in 2004 by Katherine’s parents, Kevin and Robyn Sherrie, FPM has the philosophy of doing things differently from the major, overseas-owned milling groups that dominate the Australian flour market.

FPM utilises an artisan cold milling process to produce quality flours and specialty products under the AllGrain brand name. The company maintains close relationships with sustainable farmers in the Golden Triangle region of NSW.

Katherine moved to Tamworth two and a half years ago to join the family flour mill business as her parents approach retirement. She is currently midway through the four-year UK Flour Millers Distance Learning Course.

Before joining FPM, Katherine had a 12-year marketing, advertising, and communications career, working in client and agency roles in Sydney, Perth, and the USA. She was awarded the 2020 Future Leader of the Year for Western Australia by the Australian Marketing Institute and a 2022 Rural Women’s Scholarship by Future Women and the NSW State Government.

Casey Jones, Carter Nutrition

Casey Jones is a qualified Clinical Nutritionist and accredited by ATMS. With an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine and a Bachelor of Complementary Medicine, Casey specialises in providing holistic nutrition support for children.

As a local Tamworth girl, she feels privileged to help people in her community thrive and feel their best. Casey is passionate about empowering families to make lasting changes for their children's health, focusing on behavioral concerns, mood and emotions, eczema, immune health, chronic constipation, and other gastrointestinal disorders. She brings a local, practising nutritionist's perspective to the panel, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities in children's health.
