Agmentation

Agmentation is an annual opportunity to come together for an intensive problem-solving sprint and pitch! Teams solve problems that matter to agricultural producers and rural communities.

Agmentation brings together diverse talent from high schools, UNE students and researchers, startups and businesses, producers, innovators and technologists to combine their ideas and scope a solution. Challenge statements set the scene, then individuals work in teams to devise and pitch a solution at the end of the day.

CHALLENGE STATEMENTS 2023 / THEME: CLIMATE ADAPTIVE AGRICULTURE

Rural communities are increasingly impacted by climate change and increased climate variability. These impacts are social, environmental and economic. The agricultural sector is considering innovative ways to contribute to a net zero future; farms across the globe are managing and preparing for ongoing climate variability and extreme weather events; and rural areas are experiencing deteriorating health and well-being caused by repeated stress associated with exposure to extreme climate events.

Agmentation 2023 brings us together to build solutions to:

How might we encourage and promote on-farm practices that enable net zero?

How might we design farm businesses to be resilient in the face of extreme weather?

How might we support the improved wellbeing and resilience of rural communities?

Agmentation 2024 - save the date!

About Agmentation

Agmentation is the annual flagship event for the UNE SMART Region Incubator in Armidale. It began in 2017 and explored a range of ideas for on-farm safety, health, data services, weed management, weighing livestock and sustainability.

The purpose of Agmentation is to engage diverse talents in problem solving challenges within our communities and to develop solutions that can grow into opportunities for more innovative practices in organisations or as startups. The startup methodology of human centred design thinking is used to bring forward rapid prototyping of ideas.

Why Agmentation works

Agmentation has been supported by regional collaborators including Armidale Regional Council, NSW Government, University of New England, InAgTech, NBN Co, the Southern Queensland and Northern NSW Innovation Hub, Food Agility CRC, the SMART Farm, the UNE SMART Region Incubator, their mentors and amazing networks of community supporters.

The UNE SMART Region Incubator puts community first. By focusing on the best possible experience for participants, year on year, we deliver creative and innovative hackathon-style events.

Agmentation, at its core is about enabling organisations to partner with the broader community to showcase and celebrate participatory agricultural innovation and co-creation. When you join us you will have the opportunity to engage with teams to further the development of ideas and projects!
